Tagbilaran: Cogon market under a huge balete tree

Print

The balete trees are said house duendes (little people), ghosts or snakes as here in the center of Bohol's capital Tagbilaran. People who cut balete trees are said to invite bad luck and die sooner than expected. This one towering above the Cogon market is complely walled in. - Click on photos and take a closer look, some people see real ghosts.

Another example of a monstrous balete is to be found along the coastal road from Tagbilaran to Baclayon. People say the tree is 200 or more years old. Balete, Bo Tree, Banyan, Bodisatva Tree are ficus trees, a tree with special connotation all over Asia.
